The 33-year-old has received four yellow cards so far this season and is one away from having to serve a one-match ban.

The cut-off point for five yellow cards is 23 games so he will have to avoid being booked in the next eight league matches if he is to dodge the suspension.

With the arrival of Jack Clarke and Martin Smith, Weston, who is out of contract at the end of the season, will be keen to stay out of the referee’s book as competition for places increases.

The former Gillingham and Barnet man has started all 15 of Town’s league fixtures this season and has been instrumental in Chesterfield’s excellent form which has seen them lose just one of their last seven.

Rowe is a big admirer of Weston and handed him in the captain’s armband for the match against Barnet with Will Evans suspended.
