The Blues are three places and 14 points in front of the rock-bottom Lancashire club ahead of tomorrow’s clash at Victory Park.

The Magpies beat the Spireites 3-2 earlier in the season at the Proact but have not won since the end of November.

When asked where the game will be won or lost Pemberton said: “Attitude. Like I said with Harrogate, the first thing we have got to do with any team is have an attitude to want to play and to play at an intensity that we train.

“They are bottom of the league but to be fair to them they work hard but so do we now.

“If we can defend better as a team and attack better and support each other as a team with the intensity and attitude we should be alright.”

He added: “I think this game will be more difficult than people think.”

Chorley have only won four matches all season and have scored the fewest goals in the division with just 30.

Both Chesterfield and their opponents tomorrow have both conceded a huge 63 goals so far this campaign - the joint second worst behind Ebbsfleet United.

But despite their struggles this season Spireites caretaker Pemberton insists they will not be underestimating them.

Pemberton said: “It is tricky because we are going into it on the back of a defeat and we are going away.

“You could argue that people might think that they are already gone (relegated) which then gives them a freedom to play so we are not underestimating Chorley.

“They play some decent football, they are not bad. I watched their game the other day against Eastleigh and they were unlucky not to get something in that game, they could have won it. They are neat and tidy and they have got some good players.

“Sometimes you think as well that they have not won for a while so is there luck going to change? All we can do is control what we are in control of and that is ourselves, our preparation, how we recover and train the team and obviously I have got to get it right in how we go about trying to get three points.”
