After Tom Denton’s fourth minute header the visitors were the better team and were unlucky not to be level before half-time.

A scrappy second half followed but the Spireites had the clinical touch late on with three goals in six minutes as substitute Luke Rawson grabbed a brace either side of Alex Kiwomya getting off the mark on his debut.

Woking had won both of their games prior to their visit to the Technique Stadium.

“I thought for 80 minutes we were excellent,” Dowson said.

“I wanted to get the full-backs even more pushed on and throw the kitchen sink at it. Sometimes when you do that it comes off and sometimes you don’t and this one doesn’t come off.

“I thought the second goal just took the sails out of everything.

“It is one of them things. I am not going to get too down because I don’t think it was a bad performance.

“Out of all the games for 80 minutes that is probably the best performance we have had.

“It is just one of those games and we have got to take it on the chin.

“I thought we should have done better defending their first goal better but then John Goddard is clean through on goal and he has got to score. If we do that then we are massively back in it.

“I am disappointed with the goals we have conceded but I think there is plenty to take from that.”
