'We have nothing to fear' - Chesterfield fan writer sees bright future for Spireites in 2021

It is great to see Chesterfield sit top of the table, not the National League as such, but our past six matches means we are the in-form team in the division, writes our fan columnist, Roland Gent.

Four league wins, one draw and a cup victory after penalties is James Rowe’s record for the Spireites, which is beyond anything anyone could have hoped for.

I thought Solihull Moors played well in the match at the Technique on Saturday, but we had a little too much for them.

It looked like our defence might do a ‘Bambi on ice’ in the first 10 minutes after their pacey strikers got through a couple of times on the snowy surface, but it is our newly rejuvenated midfield that now controls matches and if Tom Whelan and Jak McCourt can keep fit I can’t see many sides getting the better of Chesterfield.

After Solihull away, our next opponents are Bromley who we could easily reel in with another good performance.

Around the league, Torquay who are still in top spot managed to lose to Yeovil, a side who they thrashed 6-1 only a fortnight earlier, so despite their early good form it means that any team is beatable, even the Gulls.

Altrincham are something of a surprise package in 7th position. One of Alty’s wins was against us in a fixture we could have easily won. I’m sure under the present regime we would have taken the points in that one.

Overall, I do not think there is anything to fear apart from injuries and suspensions, so here’s to a brighter 2021!
