Substitute Alex Reid headed in the winner on 85 minutes after some heroic defending on the line and a couple of efforts hitting the post.

Mark Kitching opened the scoring for County after 20 minutes before Jordan Cropper equalised before half-time.

However, Town did receive a slice of luck when a handball in the area by Blues captain Will Evans was missed by referee Andrew Miller in the first half with Stockport already a goal up.

“I didn't think we deserved what we got, but we got it again,” Pemberton said.

“The second goal that we conceded, I think there was a lot of luck. I think that is the rub of the green at the moment. I think we made three good blocks. I think (Nathan) Tyson should deal with it, he should kick it away, he should not have got caught in possession, so he knows that and he has just apologised.

“It is just one of those things. We have just got to keep plugging away.

"I thought a lot of good came out of tonight. We played a good side in good form and I felt after the first 20 minutes or so once we had got a little foothold in the game I thought we passed the ball better.

“It is a bitter one to take because I felt we should have had something out of the game.

“I am just disappointed we could not see it because I think they have had a lot of luck for the goal.”

The result means Town have lost three of their first four games, but Pemberton believes they should have more points on the board given their performances.

“In the games we have had I feel we should have got something out of most of them, if not all of them,” he added.

“We have lost again and I take responsibility for it, but I am not whipping them for that because they have had a right go.

“I don’t think we are getting the rub of the green, I think we need a bit of luck and at the moment I don’t think we are getting it.”
