Clucas’s goals knocked out Scunthorpe United and set up a trip to Derby County as the Spireites ended a cup replay hoodoo stretching back 13 matches.

The winger is one of those players who have appeared for both the Spireites and their arch rivals, Mansfield Town.

He joined Chesterfield on 1st September, 2014, on the last day of the transfer window from the Stags for an undisclosed fee.

After netting nine league goals in 41 matches, Clucas was sold less than a year later to Hull City for what was reported to be around £1.3m.

He had built on the promise shown at Mansfield with starring roles for the Spireites — including this golden goal, one of the two that saw off Scunthorpe.

MATCH REPORT: Chesterfield v Scunthorpe

The Spireites had battled back from a two-goal half-time deficit in the first match, and they took that momentum into the replay as they dominated without finding the net until Clucas’s double.

He broke the deadlock with a simple tap-in from Eoin Doyle’s right-wing cross at the end of the first period of extra-time with a simple finish.

Then Clucas secured a fourth-round place with this memorable strike four minutes from time.

Tendayi Darikwa — now playing, like Clucas, in the Premier League — started the move with a sliding tackle to gain possession on the right.

The full back then raced towards goal, cut inside the area and was tackled. The ball broke outside the area where Clucas raced forward, took a touch with his left foot and then curled a brilliant strike just inside the post past the despairing dive of keeper Sam Slocombe.
