Each week we are taking a look at some of the best to hit the net for Chesterfield over the past decades. If you have a goal you would like us to feature, email [email protected] with brief details and your memories of the strike and we will try to include in a future article.

This week’s golden goal goes back to August 2014 and the start of the season in the Carling Cup as the Spireites tried to make the second round for the first time since 2006.

Ollie Banks had been out of action since the previous March when he picked up an injury at Wembley, but on this night he announced his return to fitness in real style.

The midfielder had only been on the pitch for a few seconds as a substitute for Ritchie Humphreys when he made his mark.

The tremendous dipping, right-footed strike made it 2-0 to Chesterfield after Humphreys had opened the scoring.

Sadly for the Spireites it all went wrong late on. They were leading 3-1, after Eoin Doyle had struck as well, with just 19 minutes remaining before losing out 5-3 in extra-time to the visitors.
