Town looked like '˜top six side' at Coventry says Dimaio, who wants repeat performance today

The midfielder, who has formed a partnership alongside Liam O’Neil in the last two games as part of a new formation for the Spireites, says his side are doing everything but getting results.

“I thought we played really well at Charlton and carried it on at Coventry, we just haven’t got the results yet,” he said ahead of today’s FA Cup first round tie.

“I think confidence is still high because of the way we played, we just need to put our chances away.

“I think we just need to score, simple as that, just need to hit the target, smash it in and continue from there.

“There’s no nerves or fear going into a game, against Coventry in the first half we looked like a top six team, passed it well, they couldn’t get near us.”

Should Town replicate the performance they put in at the Ricoh in midweek, Dimaio backs them to end their seven-game losing streak.

“We’ve got to put demands on ourselves, put a bit of pressure on ourselves to go and get a win,” he said.

“I think we can go there and be positive, do what we did against Coventry and take the game to them.

“If we can get two wins in the cup games, with a couple of goals behind us we can go into the Sheffield United game with a bit of confidence.”

He’s pleased with how his new role has panned out so far.

And discipline appears to be the key for this system, which includes Dion Donohue and Gboly Ariyibi as wing-backs either side of three centre-halves.

“Liam and I have to stay disciplined and stay together, that allows Dion and Gboly to push on,” he said.

“One can push on a bit but not too much, the gaffer wants us to protect that back three.

“You’ve got to pick the right moments and if you do and it works it’s good, but if you dont the whole system breaks down.”
