In an all-too-predictable twist of footballing irony, the former Blackpool man was of course on the scoresheet for Accrington Stanley at the Proact on Tuesday.

His performance was impressive and efficient in Stanley’s 4-1 win over the Spireites.

It was the kind of display he hoped to put on for Town fans, having spent two weeks on trial with Wilson’s squad, scoring for the reserves.

“Danny was speaking to me quite a bit,” he said.

“We wanted to get something done but in the end he was told he needed to get players out first.

“Unfortunately the way the loans are now you can’t get any players out.

“I did really well, he was desperate to bring me in but sometimes it doesn’t work out.”

Wilson has already expressed the possibility of landing the veteran in January when the window opens, if he was able to make room in the squad.

But Taylor-Fletcher, who has reached a temporary arrangement with Accrington Stanley, obviously hopes he won’t be available in the new year.

He said: “Danny has said we’ll see what happens in January, but if I get a full deal off Accrington I’ll be committed to that.

“I want to be somewhere for the rest of the season, stay there and get settled.”

Tuesday’s EFL Trophy game was an enjoyable one for Taylor-Fletcher, who remarkably likened his new team to Spanish giants Barcelona for their passing football.

“That first half was the most I’ve enjoyed playing football for a long, long time.

“Just to get back on the scoresheet and to get out playing again was great.

“I was told they like to play football but I didn’t understand how much football.

“That first half was like watching Barcelona, I’m lost for words it was so enjoyable.”

And now that he’s made a goalscoring introduction to his potential new employers, he wants to ink a permanent deal.

“I just hope something gets sorted and I can play a few more games,” he said.

“I’m still like a big kid, I just want to play as long as possible.

“I’ve never really had legs but I’ve still got the quality.”
