Clubs in the Premier League and Football League have until 11pm tonight to sign contracted players. After that, they will have to wait for the transfer window to open again in the summer before bringing in any new additions.

As we revealed earlier in January, the League One club, managed by former Chesterfield boss John Sheridan, made an approach to sign Evans on a permanent deal but no agreement was reached.

And we understand that the Robins have not come back in for Evans with the deadline fast approaching.

The 29-year-old started his career at Swindon in 2010.

Sheridan’s men are currently third bottom of League One and are three points from safety.

Centre-back Evans is a regular in the starting line-up and scored his first goal of the season on Saturday against Dagenham and Redbridge.
