Swans chief Kev Grundy was forced into wholesale changes, with nine players unavailable.

Swanwick have been criticised for being slow starters, however, this was not the case on Saturday.

The hosts were inspired by their newly-appointed captain Jamie Slater and the side came out the traps fast.

Shane Buckerfield was recalled to the starting line-up and he was the man who scored the only goal after 15 minutes.

A Chris Turner corner was poorly dealt with by Holbrook, allowing Buckerfield to fire a volley into the bottom corner.

It has to be said both sides will play better football this season, with direct passes dominating play for the middle third of the match.

Holbrook were certainly a good physical match, but the new centre-half pairing of Josh Smith and Joshua Dennis met every challenge with confidence.

Goalkeeper Adam Jablonski was also superb throughout, making some essential saves when required.

The win sealed the Swans’ fourth clean sheet at home.

Next weekend sees them travel to Pinxton.

• The reserves lost 3-1 to Hucknall Town reserves.

Liam Dolan scored Swanwick’s only goal but it didn’t prove enough for the injury-stricken side.
