The centre-half picked up the Sheffield Star Chesterfield Player of the Year award on Wednesday night.

He was quick to share any credit with his team-mates however, and tried to remain positive about the 2015/16 season at the Proact.

“It’s an honour to win the award,” he said.

“But more importantly it’s been a team effort this year to stay in the league.

“I wouldn’t say it’s been a disappointing season but it’s not been a great achievement to not do as well as we did last year.

“It’s an achievement in itself to declare our safety and it’s on to next season with the new gaffer and staff, and maybe a few new lads coming in this summer.”

Sunday’s trip to Bradford is something of a nothing game, with the Bantams preparing for the play-offs and the Spireites safe from the drop.

Hird, who has helped put together an impressive away record this season, is still targetting three points however.

“The pressure is off now but we’d still like to go out with a bang, a good result against Bradford and finish the season on 56 points.”

Hird’s midweek award was presented on stage by his boss Danny Wilson, and the 28-year-old is upbeat about what happens next at the Proact under the veteran boss.

“He’s been brilliant. He’s an experienced manager, he’s managed a lot of games, he knows his stuff and has a great backroom team behind him,” he said.

“It’s onwards and upwards now for next season.

“It’s been a long season for all the lads.

“Losing the gaffer and a lot of our good players has made it a season of transition, with a couple of different managers, different players coming and going.

“It will be nice to get a well earned break really and and then look forward to coming in pre-season with the manager and his staff, any new players and kick on from there.”
