The Spireites are keen on attacker Matt Kosylo, who helped the Shaymen clinch promotion to the National League on Saturday with a win over Chorley.

One interested spectator in the 7,920 crowd at the Shay was Town boss Gary Caldwell.

The Scot was also spotted at both of the play-off semi-final legs between Halifax and Salford.

According to sources, Chesterfield are exploring the possibility of signing 24-year-old Kosylo, who can play on the wing or up front.

The only sticking point might be the fact that Kosylo is contracted to next summer and would command a fee.

But he may not be the only Halifax player the Spireites look to entice to the Proact, with at least one of Kosylo’s team-mates thought to be on their radar.

Kosylo has fired in 11 goals this season in the Shaymen’s promotion push.

Halifax signed him last July after he impressed against them in the FA Trophy semi-finals for Nantwich Town.

Kosylo, of Ukrainian parentage, scored 13 goals for the Dabbers in the 2015/16 season and was named the Northern Premier League’s Young Player of the Season.

His career began at Stockport County but an injury derailed his hopes of progressing into the first team.

Spells with Ashton United, Vauxhall Motors and Hyde followed, before he moved to Nantwich three years ago.

Halifax have made a habit of finding diamonds in the rough and shining them up for moves to the Football League.

Leicester and England star Jamie Vardy, highly rated Barnsley centre-half Marc Robers, Millwall striker Lee Gregory and Aston Villa forward Scott Hogan have all had stints at the Shay.
