A Chesterfield FC statement said the role of director of football, one Turner took up in January, has been made redundant.

Company secretary Ashley Carson said: “As part of necessary cost-cutting measures, I have carried out a full internal audit and it is with regret that the position of director of football is redundant. Chris has vacated his post with immediate effect.

“On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Chris for his hard work and dedication, which has resulted in a number of six-figure sums being secured via player sales. I would like to wish Chris and his family well in the future.”

Turner joined the club in December 2011 as CEO before his role change at the start of this year.

He said a league title and Wembley trips were the highlights of his tenure.

“I have enjoyed some great times during my time at the club, including two Wembley final appearances and a League Two championship-winning campaign,” he said.

“I would like to thank Dave Allen for giving me the opportunity to be involved with Chesterfield and I sincerely wish everyone involved with the club all the very best.”
