Chesterfield travel to Conference side Southport today looking to continue their unbeaten form during pre-season.
Following back-to-back wins against Buxton and Huddersfield Town, the Spireites drew with Nottingham Forest and Belper Town in their last two friendly fixtures.
With Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday still to come at the Proact Stadium before the season opener on August 3, assistant manager Leam Richardson said he was happy with how preparations are going.
He said: “We’ve worked hard to structure a pre-season to get the lads up and running and get their fitness levels up to standard. The lads have impressed me in training.
“We want a really good work ethic, we want to be professional and we want to move the ball properly. We’ll show Southport respect and I expect it’ll be a good work out again.”
Nathan Smith is on the fringes of making a return to action following a lengthy lay off with a broken ankle and may yet play a part.
New recruits Jamie Devitt and Matty Brown are set to feature. On trial Hamza Bencherif looks set to be given another chance to impress after coming off the bench late on against Forest.
