The mighty blues are all set to do battle in the Johnstone Paint Trophy final at Wembley on Sunday and Chesterfield is right behind them.

Chesterfield Junior Blues football club players were among the first to be blown away - when the trophy went on tour last week and arrived at their training ground to huge cheers.

The JPT promotions team treated the youngsters to 50 free tickets to the big match.

Club chairman Oliver Couch said: “This is a fantastic gesture from Johnstone’s Paints. We’ll be there to support Chesterfield. It’ll be a great day out for some of our kids who might not otherwise have been able to go.”

Pupils at Hady Primary were delighted to have their turn with the trophy on Thursday morning.

The coveted silverwear then took a tour of the town ahead of the clash against Peterborough, visiting schools, shops, and the town centre.

It made a stop at Chesterfield Fire Station and police station, where former Chesterfield player Les Hunter was among those to lift the trophy.

He said: “As an ex professional footballer, having played for Chesterfield and being associated with them, I’m quite proud that they’ve got to Wembley. I’ve never played their myself, but I hope they do really well and I hope they come back with the trophy.”

Excitement continued through the town when the trophy reached the market hall. Fans waited patiently to have their photos taken with players Ian Evatt and Armand Gnanduillet as well as the trophy and mascot Chester. As the big day draws closer Spireite fans are feeling confident that their boys can bring the trophy home for a second time in three years.

Supporter Billie Fullwood said “It’s a great opportunity for the Spireites - I think we have a better chance this year.”

Young Spireite Daniel Wootton is really looking forward to Wembley and has faith in his favourite player Gary Roberts.

Another fan Glenn Hodkinson added: “I went to Wembley last time, Paul Cook has given us plenty of opportunity to get us to Wembley, and he’s doing well with Chesterfield.

“I’m confident we’ll be bringing back the trophy with Tommy Lee in goal.”
