The manager acknowledges that Chesterfield fans will be growing impatient to learn who the new centre forward will be.

“We’ve got a couple of irons in the fire and will have to see how that pans out over the next week or so.”

Allen wants a squad of no more than 19 for the new National League season.

He’s so far signed a goalkeeper, two central defenders, a right-back, and three central midfielders.
