Morsy has reportedly attracted the attention of a handful of Championship and League One clubs after a string of eye-catching displays in the Spireites engine room over the past two-and-a-half years.

The 24-year-old arrived at the Proact Stadium in the summer of 2013 and was an integral part of Paul Cook’s League Two title winning side, which also made it to the JPT Final at Wembley.

He took on the armband last season, leading the team to the League One play-offs, and was a target of MK Dons in the summer after their promotion to the Championship under Karl Robinson.

But new Chesterfield boss Danny Wilson said no offers were on the table for the former Port Vale man and that remained the case as the Derbyshire Times went to press on Tuesday evening.

Wilson said: “People have been speculating about this even before I came in. We’ve heard nothing yet and from my point of view that’s music to my ears.

“The back end of the transfer window is a nightmare for managers and if it did happen then there would be less time to replace him, if it were to happen.

“I say that with a capital ‘I’. We don’t know. It depends on the approach from whichever club, until that does happen we won’t be able to make a decision.”

Chesterfield are not believed to be under pressure to sell, despite the player’s contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign, yet a six-figure sum could open negotiations at the Proact.

Meanwhile goalkeeper Alex Cairns has left the Spireites and joined Rotherham United. Wilson remains hopeful of bringing in a defender this month and tying Chris Herd down for a longer stay.

Striker Armand Gnanduillet has returned from his loan spell at League Two side Stevenage, scoring six goals in his three month stay, including one on Saturday against Mansfield Town.
