Spireites: Anderson returns to Burnley with League One box ticked

The Lancashire lad arrived at Chesterfield on loan on 1st February and became an ever-present in Danny Wilson’s defence, in what was his first taste of League One football.

Anderson, at the tender age of 22, admits he came to the Proact with a few nerves.

But he credits a manager willing to chuck him in at the deep end, an experienced defensive partner and an assistant manager with over 400 Football League appearances at centre-half with helping him adapt to his new surroundings.

“Personally it’s been brilliant for me. It was my first bit of League One football and I’ve loved every minute of it,” he said.

“I started every game, although the last game didn’t go to plan, but I still started it.

“As a team, compared to last year they haven’t done as well but it’s still a good achievement to stay in the division. You have to look at the positives.

“I’ve definitely learned. I’ve hever played League One before and you always have that doubt in your mind, am I good enough? What’s going to happen if I’m not?

“Playing with Sam was a great experience, the other night he picked up a lot of awards, he’s a very good player and has been brilliant for me.

“The management have been great, the gaffer took a big gamble on me, I wouldn’t have thought it was easy to bring someone in who hadn’t played League One before.

“Morgs has been brilliant too, working with me after training, developing my game and improving me.”

Anderson will take fond memories back to Burnley with him now that his loan deal has ended.

There are a few moments he won’t recall however, having been knocked out at Bradford City in last Sunday’s final game of the season.

“I remember bits, I watched it back and remembered the cross, but apart from that I can’t remember much,” he admitted.

“I’m alright now, on the day and the day after I was a bit groggy but I’ve started to feel quite a bit better.

“I had a concussion, I was out for about a minute, then I came round and started to remember where I was. At first I didn’t know what day it was.”

Anderson has another year left on his contract with the Clarets, and hopes his steady displays for the Spireites will have impressed his employers.

He also hints at a possible return to the Proact, should circumstances allow.

He said: “They wanted to see if I could go and play League One football and I’ve shown them I can do that.

“That’s another box ticked. Last year I did League Two and prior to that it was Conference and non-league.

“I will have to wait and see what the club says, and maybe what Chesterfield say.

“I would like to do a full season, because this spell was about a third of a season.

“I’ll have to wait and see what the gaffers say.”
