Spireite striker Evans set for rape trial tomorrow

Ched Evans' second trial for a rape allegation begins tomorrow at Cardiff Crown Court.

The 27-year-old was convicted of the rape of a 19-year-old woman in 2012 and served half of a five year sentence, before the conviction was quashed on appeal earlier this year.

Last week Spireites boss Danny Wilson said the trial would have no impact on Evans’ role at the club, presumably due to the Welshman’s current injury status.

A heel problem is expected to keep him out of competitive action for another three weeks or so and his trial is scheduled to last two weeks.

Chesterfield have been keen to keep the frontman out of the limelight, making him unavailable for interview since his summer signing.
