Shirebrook go goal crazy in Rossington thriller

Shirebrook Town went goal crazy on Saturday afternoon as goals from Adam Shepherd, Matty Ord, Liam Osborne, Jake Currie, Liam Greenfield and Antony Rowley saw them run out 6-3 winners over Rossington Main.

There were two new faces in the Town squad with Andrew Fox making his debut and Louis Shaw named on the bench. Rob White also returned in goal and Josh Gibson was brought into the defence in place of Stuart Hill who dropped to the bench.

Both teams struggled to get to grips with conditions at the start of the game and no team looked like scoring in the opening half hour with the closest any team got was Liam Osborne heading Liam Greenfield cross just wide of the far post.

But it was Shirebrook who got the opening goal of the game when Greenfield shot was saved by the keeper and Adam Shepherd followed up to tap the ball into the net. Rossington pulled levelled the scores a minute later when a Shaun Pendleton free-kick found the top corner.

The second half followed suit from the first and the visitors took the lead in the 50th-minute when Matthew Ellis header found the bottom corner. Shirebrook levelled the scores four minutes later when Greenfield cross found Matty Ord at the back post and his shot found the bottom corner.

Only a minute later Rossington reestablished the lead through Matthew Bradley but Shirebrook again levelled the scores two minutes later when a Greenfield free-kick found Liam Osborne, who made no mistake from six yards out.

Shirebrook finally took the lead in the 60th-minute when Rossington’s keeper kicked the ball to Jake Currie who took aim from 20 yards and chipped the keeper to end a crazy ten-minute spell.

Shirebrook knew there were still more goals in this game and they got another in the 72nd minute through Greenfield when he cut inside and shot into the bottom corner.

The game was finally wrapped up in the 78th-minute when substitute Antony Rowley found himself 25 yards out and took aim and found the top corner to seal a fantastic second half performance.
