Shirebrook clinch win with second half double

Second half goals from Craig Getliff and Aaron Moxam proved to be enough for Shirebrook Town to see off resurgent Leeds-based side Yorkshire Amateur 2-0 at Langwith Road on Saturday.

Julian Watts’ reshuffled side struggled to settle early on, and they had keeper Joe McCormack to thank for keeping them in the game with 10 minutes gone when he kept out Ryan Robinson’s penalty, after Danny Booth had stuck out a leg and tripped Joe Fella after he cut into the box from the right.

Shirebrook also lost central defender Ross Henshaw at half-time to a back injury.

And with just five minutes of the second half gone, Shirebrook took the lead with stand-in skipper Getliff heading into the visitors’ net at the near post off Danny Bacon’s out-swinging corner from the right.

Shirebrook looked to press home their advantage and had several chances before top-scorer Moxam doubled the home side’s lead on 76 minutes from a swift counter attack, holding off the challenges of two burly central defenders, before chipping the ball delightfully into the visitors’ net from 20 yards.

On Saturday Shirebrook travel to Bradford to take on second-placed Eccleshill United.
