The Villagers will not play again until 19th December at the earliest after the league suspended matches pending a further government review on the nation’s tier system.

It is hoped restrictions will be eased on 16th December meaning fans can return to matches.

“I think its the sensible thing to do,” he said. “Paying £150 for officials isn’t feasible for any team, never mind us who dont even pay wages to players. If you’ve no income you’re going to struggle to fulfil that.

“We need to be able to have the bar open, it is the lifeblood of the club.

“If you have 200 people drinking beer at £2 a can, as well as gate receipts, then you’re making money.”

Steed remains hopeful that the season will still be completed and believes clubs will accept the busy fixture schedule.

“I think teams will want to finish the season. They have played Tuesday/Saturday/Tuesday for the first 5-6 weeks of the season,” he added.

“Once you start playing you want to get some momentum and I don't think people will query busy fixtures. People want to get it finished and none more so than us.

“We want to start playing and getting points on the board as soon as possible.”

Selston trained last midweek as they look to build up to a return of football and what they hope will be a rise off the bottom of the table.

And Steed remains confident that his side can climb if they have the fans right behind them.

“We need the fans right behind us to help us out of the situation we are in,” he added.

“We finished strongly in the game before lockdown and should have won.

"It was the performance of the season and people want to come back to see if we can pick it back up.

“The players want to show what they can do. It’s frustrating, but we are all in the same boat.

“We trained in midweek and it was good to have the lads back. The team spirit was there and that is what we need.

“When we go into any game we don’t turn up thinning we will get beat. I see positivity and the togetherness that will get us through this.”

Im believe in t eh players and hopefully we can get more out of them to get us where we need to be. The players looked fit, i know they are ticking over

Im hping at some point we can get a inter-clib friendly in to get som eminutes under their belts and to have a look at the players
