'Scouting network is a priority for us' - Chesterfield appoint former player as new chief scout

Former Spireites player Paul Lemon has been appointed Chesterfield’s new chief scout.

Lemon, 54, has previously been first team scout at Scunthorpe United and has had spells at Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic.

He was interviewed for a similar position at the Blues in 2017 but lost out to Guy Branston.

Spireites chief executive, John Croot, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to bring in someone of Paul’s calibre to take on this highly important role.

“The introduction of a scouting network to identify potential new recruits was identified as a priority for the community trust when the club takeover was first discussed.

“Paul has the knowledge and experience required for the role. He still lives in the town and has an affinity for the club

“John Pemberton fully endorses the plans as he recognises the importance of a professional scouting system.”

The ex-midfielder joined the Spireites in 1989 from Sunderland, but unfortunately his playing career was cut short aged just 27 in 1994 due to a cruciate ligament injury, which Lemon described as ‘hard to take’ and ‘hard to deal with’.

On the role, Lemon, who lives in Hasland, said: “There are good people in charge who care about the club and I’m delighted to have been given this opportunity to help them.

“I’ll follow a remit from the manager to provide him with different options and I can’t wait to get out there.”

In other news, former Chesterfield youngster, Charlie Wakefield, has joined Buxton after being released by Town in the summer.
