Countdown to kick-off
Good afternoon everybody!
The Technique is filling up nicely and the atmosphere is building ahead of what is a big, big game for both teams.
You can already feel the energy of the crowd, it’s been 445 days since we last had fans inside this great arena.
Let’s hope the match lives up to expectations and Town can get the job done.
Stay tuned for live updates and all the reaction afterwards.
What a feeling!
Team news thoughts from fan writer Ben
The team news is in then and we now know the eleven that will take the field to be welcomed by the fanatic 3,000 inside the Technique Stadium this afternoon.
There’s three changes for the Spireites from the goalless draw against Wealdstone, with Gavin Gunning, Curtis Weston and Joel Taylor coming for Josef Yarney, Jak McCourt and Adi Yussuf.
Three very welcome changes in my opinion, with Gunning and Weston in particular vital in upholding the spine of the Town side, aiding organisation and ensuring they aren’t vulnerable to the counter attack, which they sometimes appeared to be in their absence.
Joel Taylor also offers defensive stability, as well as a different and notable threat going forward, and if he can be as dangerous as he has been in games such as the one away at Bromley, he could play a key role in nudging the Spireites towards victory this afternoon. In any case, today will not be easy though. Dagenham and Redbridge come into this game in red hot form and, by James Rowe’s own admission, Chesterfield are somewhat limping towards the line, both figuratively and literally, so I think viewing this game objectively, you’d have to have the visitors down as the favourites.
That said, the element of the fans adds another dynamic to this game, and I really feel the presence of that 12th man could get the adrenaline flowing through those tired Town legs and push them over the line. For that reason, I’ll go for a hard-fought 1-0 Chesterfield victory this afternoon.
