Gillingham 1 v 0 Chesterfield: LIVE UPDATES (12.30pm KO)
Chesterfield
Just need a spell of possession, they have given it straight back to Gillingham in the last five minutes.
Half an hour gone
Chesterfield trail 1-0 but they’ve hit the woodwork twice and playing well generally, but do look suspect defensively as a team.
Ehmer has almost just got on the end of a teasing cross from Nolan but he couldn’t reach it.
Off the post!
Dobra hits the post with his left foot from inside the area after good play by Markanday. That’s bar and post hit now for Chesterfield.
What a tackle!
Big tackle from Daley-Campbell on Hutton stops the Gills man having a chance on goal. That was last-ditch stuff. Town could easily be winning, but also could be 2-0 down! Very open start.
Gills almost grab a second
After Town give cheap possession away the hosts broke clear, Boot parried from McKenzie and then Wyllie drilled wide.
Goal for Gillingham: 1-0
McKenzie has scored a header at the back post from a set-piece. Against the run of play.
Big chance!
Daley-Campbell’s low cross from the right is cut out but it falls to Markanday in the box, about 12 yard out, but he lashes it over when well placed. Big chance, that. Should have hit the target.
Off the bar!
Oldaker smacks the underside of the crossbar with a free-kick from all of 25 yards. Grigg went for the rebound but he didn’t quite get enough on it. What a strike that was from DJ against his old club.
Bright start
Markanday and Berry have both won free-kicks in the Gills half after running at the home side. Front-foot stuff from Town so far.
We are underway!
Chesterfield are wearing their new away kit for the first time.
The hosts get us underway!
Here come the teams!
The sides emerge from the tunnel. We’re all set for what is an intriguing clash between two teams who are expected to be up there come the end of the season.
Countdown to kick-off
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Priestfield Stadium, where Chesterfield take on leaders Gillingham.
Early start for us and for the travelling Spireites - those alarm clocks were nasty!
Anyway, as we write this, Chesterfield’s players are just going through their final drills, while there’s a small pocket of Town supporters on the uncovered terrace behind the goal. Let’s hope it doesn’t rain!
There is no doubt that this is the Blues’ biggest test so far as they come up against an expected promotion rival.
Stay tuned as we bring you all the key action!
