Thanks for joining us!
A good performance by Chesterfield overall despite the missed chances. Plenty of positives to take. It's been an encouraging start under James Rowe. No game on Saturday so we will back next Tuesday away at Sutton United. Night all!
Plenty to discuss
Chesterfield were held to a goalless draw against Aldershot Town in James Rowe’s first home match as Spireites manager on Tuesday night at the Technique Stadium. Here are Liam Norcliffe’s talking points from the game:
Post-match reaction from James Rowe
James Rowe said he is ‘very happy’ with his first two games in charge of Chesterfield despite the Spireites being held to a goalless draw by Aldershot Town on Tuesday night.
Final thoughts from our fan writers
Ben: “A weird one tonight. Frustrating in that the Spireites didn’t secure a deserved three points, but also plenty of positives in the performance. The back three looked far more solid than they have done previously and more than enough chances were created going forward. Perhaps you could say that the Spireites lacked a clinical edge, but I’d argue that it was more of a case of the Aldershot keeper having a brilliant game, and he was certainly a contender for man of the match. It just seemed like one of those days for Chesterfield where it was never going to drop in. However, if they play like that every week, they’ll surely get a bit more good fortune and certainly will be able to start looking up the table rather than towards the bottom, and that has taken as a huge positive. An encouraging night overall.”
Jack: “On balance probably a fair result. We’ve done everything but score today - their ‘keeper deserves the Man of the Match award. What a performance from him! But we move on to Sutton. Still a huge improvement.”
It’s all over
FT: Chesterfield 0 v 0 Aldershot Town
A terrific performance by the Spireites. They created enough chances to win three games. First draw of the season. Reaction coming up.
Hollis goes close with a glancing header. Almost FT.
OFF THE LINE - five mins added
Denton's header from Cropper's cross is cleared off the line by a Shots defender. FIVE minutes added! Town piling on the pressure.
WHAT A SAVE! James keeps out a great strike from Weston. The Shots goalkeeer has been outstanding tonight. Moments before Cropper’s cross evaded everyone when it was asking to be turned in.
HOW DID THAT NOT GO IN?! Cropper's pull-back finds Denton at the far post but James blocks his shot and then a scramble follows and it is cleared. How is this still 0-0? James has been brilliant tonight in the Shots goal.
FOR ALDERSHOT - Alfy Whittingham horror challenge on David Buchanan in Chesterfield’s own area. Buchanan got there first and Whittingham jumped in two-footed. Definite red.
