We all hate it.

A time of uncertainty.

A period where we don’t know where we stand.

Chesterfield are experiencing the tight grip of limbo on and off the field right now.

Their National League season has been suspended indefinitely and a proposed takeover by the community trust has been delayed too.

So where do they go from here? What’s the next move?

When in limbo what you can’t do is stand still and let it overcome you.

John Pemberton has been Spireites caretaker boss since January.John Pemberton has been Spireites caretaker boss since January.
John Pemberton has been Spireites caretaker boss since January.

Which is why the club is doing the right thing in planning for next season with or without the takeover.

If the Spireites dither around waiting for it to happen then they will be in for another tough season just like the last five years.

There is a huge amount of work to be done if they are to challenge near the top of the league but if they start now they will give themselves a decent chance.

And to be fair, the club is being proactive.

They are set to make announcements on out of contract players, season ticket prices have been agreed, the new kit will be launched soon and a new stadium sponsor is in place.

Apart from the takeover, the big talking point is that of the manager.

John Pemberton - who has done a great job since arriving in January - must be given the job on a permanent basis - and soon. They can’t afford to let him slip through the net.

Given the amount of work he has put in behind the scenes it would be ludicrous to give someone else the job.

I understand that if there is no change in ownership then Pemberton will be offered it.

It is also more than likely that the community trust would appoint him too.

Pemberton is not one for standing still - he is always planning, thinking, analysing.

I believe it will be his enthusiasm and drive that is rubbing off on everybody else at the club.

Even the last couple of statements from company secretary, Ashley Carson, have been well received by supporters judging by the comments online.

It is early days but the signs are promising.
