Central Midlands Black Dragon South outfit Pinxton FC have announced their ambition ahead of the 2017/18 campaign by confirming that Scott Rogers has accepted the chance to join the Derbyshire-based club as their new manager.

Rogers oversaw the Sherwood Colliery Reserves side that romped to the title in the Central Midlands Reserve Division last season and his efforts have been rewarded with a move which sees him accept his first management role at first team level.

The 24-year-old has an infectious desire to do well in management and spoke this week of his delight at getting the gig at the Van Elle Welfare Arena.

Rogers said: “I had heard that the club were on the lookout for a new boss and made the application early last week.

“I was fortunate enough to get an interview with chairman Tim Graney on Wednesday and it obviously went quite well to the point where I was offered the job.”

Former Mansfield Town man Rogers saw his playing career cruelly curtailed by a serious leg break suffered while playing for Heanor Town, but the move into management is one which he has taken in his stride with aplomb.

As with most former players, Rogers’ passion for the game is undeterred and he is now keen to fulfil his ambitions in football from the technical area rather than the middle of the park where he was accustomed during his playing days.

He said: “Tim was saying that the club has been in this league for eight years now and promotion is something which he would love to achieve.

“That was obviously nice to hear as I feel that I know what it takes to ensure that we can be competitive next season.

“There is no major pressure on me overseeing instant success here but at the same time I am keen to repay the faith that Tim has shown in me and it isn’t in my nature to just plod along. I want to win games of football.”

Rogers believes that his achievement in winning the Reserve Division with Sherwood Colliery last season is something that will put him in good stead for the future and he has nothing but kind words for the club which he has recently departed.

He continued: “I spoke to Wayne Savage and Phil Kirkland at Sherwood and they were honest with me in saying that there wasn’t going to be much for me at the club next season.

“Having won the title last season I didn’t really want to stick around and manage a team that would be competing for a crown that I had already put on my CV, so the decision was made in the best interests of everyone.

“Obviously the top two or three sides are of better quality in the CML South Division, but from there I don’t think there is too much difference between the quality of the teams that we will be coming up against.

“With the right additions to the side there is no reason why we can’t be one of the teams that are challenging for honours and that is definitely something we will be looking to do.

Rogers begins work at the end of June when the Pinxton first-team report back for pre-season training and he hopes that the fans will enjoy his playing style.

“I would like to think that the fans will be excited with the type of football I want us to play. I like to play on the front foot and be attacking.

“Football doesn’t have to be a complicated game and the emphasis will be all about getting the ball down and playing with a lot of pace and enthusiasm.”
