National finals for Bolsover U11s
A representative team of U11 girls from Bolsover District FA have reached the finals of a national competition after a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
They came out on top in the ESFA Regional tournament at St Graves Park, Sheffield, on Saturday and now progress through to the Premier League’s U11 National Finals on Saturday, 9th June at Liverpool FC’s training academy.
Team manager Clare Hayes, who is the School Games organiser for the Bolsover District School Sport Partnership, said: “I am so proud of the girls.
“Their attitude to training left me feeling confident before the tournament, but they really surpassed themselves and can look forward to a great day out in Liverpool in a few weeks time.
“I would like to thank Shane Turner for supporting me in getting the girls this far.”
The U11 girls, spearheaded by captain Jess Rich, played two rounds of matches against Chesterfield, Gainsborough and District, and South Derbyshire.
Without their usual goalkeeper, the girls managed to draw level at the top of the table with South Derbyshire, and did not concede any goals.
A penalty shoot-out then saw Bolsover win 2-1 and spark off memorable celebrations.
