Maxfield, who parted company with the Bucks this week, admits to being “disappointed” at the decision but insists the club are well-primed for the long campaign ahead.

Speaking to the Advertiser shortly after news of his exit had broke, Maxfield said: “The club have told me my services are no longer needed.

“If I’m honest I’m really disappointed, not angry, just disappointed by it all.

“It’s come out of the blue and I certainly had no inkling of it.

“But that’s football and Buxton was here long before me and it will be here long after me.

“I’ve got such happy memories of this club from playing in cup finals and play-offs and I really do wish them all the best.

“I predicted a good season with the players that are at the club and I still believe that will be the case.

“I hope the supporters will appreciate that I never gave less than 100 per cent if nothing else, and that I tried my hardest.”

Maxfield had been with the Bucks since the summer of 2007 and in total made 255 appearances, scoring five goals.

He initially joined as a player-coach before stepping up to the role as player-manager in November 2011. Upon the arrival of Martin McIntosh as manager in February 2012, Maxfield was then made player-assistant and last season he made 34 appearances.

This season he had started in all four league games but his final outing in a Bucks shirt was one to forget on a personal note, when he was sent off during Bank Holiday Monday’s ill-tempered defeat at home to Ilkeston.
