Struggling Stamford come to the Autoworld Arena this weekend and having played well to gain their deserved draw in Cheshire, it is likely to be a different type of challenge that faces the Gladiators this time.

Matlock had trailed 2-0 early on before fighting back to rescue a point and ended a run of four successive away defeats.

“It’ll only prove to be a very good point if we do the business on Saturday,” he warned.

“We’d have settled for the point before we went, but it’s not much good to us working so hard to get the point we deserved at Nantwich if we can’t back it up against Stamford.

“Tuesday was pleasing especially after being 2-0 down in about five or six minutes, the lads fought tremendously hard and the character they showed told us a lot about the kind of lads we have at the club.

“I think away from home our concentration levels haven’t been what they should be, you can’t legislate for individual errors like those last Saturday, and that’s something Mark and me will have to address if we’re to get the club where we want them to be and finish as high as we can.”

Maxfield was also full of praise for the workrate of midfielder Liam Needham.

“Liam Needham was superb, he set the tempo with his workrate, but so was everyone else and we need to replicate that on Saturday and in future matches,” he added.

“Laurie Wilson was out suspended tonight and he’ll have a real battle to get back in after that performance. It’ll give Mark and me a headache, but a nice one for us to have.

The Daniels currently sit in the relegation places having recently changed their manager.

The Gladiators are without a midweek date next week, ahead of their trip to Whitby Town on Saturday week.
