If you had told me just a few weeks ago that Matlock Town would pick up six points from nine against AFC Fylde, Ashton United and Marine AFC then I’d have bitten your hand off - but another inconsistent week on the pitch has shown where it quite often has gone wrong at times this season.

A defeat against Ashton United, which in itself is never an easy place to go, could be excused but if Matlock had put away their earlier chances it could have been so much different.

This was followed by a home match against Marine AFC who, on the day were only just holding on to hopes of the play offs, but those hopes were dashed by a team that ran their hearts out for 90 minuets.

Joe Leesley scored a superb goal from the edge of the area after it fell to him just nicely from a Lavell White cross to give the Gladiators the spoils.

Now, if you are a regular reader of this ol’ column of mine then you’ll know I’ve recently made some quite passionate pleas to the Matlock community to come down and back the lads on the field and the club off it.

This week saw chairman Tom Wright follow suit with the revelation that the current squad had taken pay cuts to stay at the club and players on the bench had only taken expenses and no wage to play.

It shows a great loyal to the fans and manager and I must thank them for what they’ve done for Matlock Town FC .

Now time for the fans to get behind the club, especially with the upcoming Derbyshire Senior Cup Final.

It could see us pick up a very nice piece of silverware and the right to call ourselves the pride of Derbyshire.

It’s a real chance to move forward as a club so please come out and back the team by just lending your voice to the Gladiator Nation and as well the club are always look for sponsors for a multitude of different things which can be seen in the latest press release on the Matlock Town website.

I truly believe the club is brimming with potential so let’s not fall behind, lets keep going forward together!
