The Spireites boss, speaking after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Alfreton Town, said he’s now looking at a shortlist of potential recruits.

“I had a nice phone call earlier this morning from my boss, who reminded me there is space or room for another centre forward or another player I’d like to bring in,” he said.

“I’ve got to make sure that player coming in is going to fit into our group of men, who are very close.

“We’ve got players in good form.

“He called me this morning to reiterate that.

“I’ve got a list of three or four players we could still go after.”

One of the players Allen was keen on, Liam McAlinden, who spent a number of weeks on trial at the Proact, has signed a two-year deal with Cheltenham in League Two.

The striker went elsewhere during the past week, when Allen’s transfer dealings were put on hold due to an imminent takeover that has now broken down.

With transfer activity now able to resume, Allen says there may be players who move out.

“We’ll see what happens over the next few days.

“Players may be going out but I can’t really comment on that until I’ve spoken to some players on Monday.”
