O’Neill, who took over the reins from long-serving manager Nicky Law towards the end of the campaign, has not been offered a new deal, with fans’ favourite Clayton - who remained a player as well as O’Neill’s assistant and scored over 100 goals in two spells with the club - also having been released.

Other players to have been released include Adam Priestley, Paul Marshall, Ryan Wilson and captain Andy Monkhouse, while it is believed midfielder Mark Shelton has turned down the offer of a new deal.
