Spireites boss Martin Allen, with the backing of his entire squad, has told the Chesterfield defender to stay out in Russia to watch big brother Harry play for England in Wednesday’s semi-final.

Leicester City’s Maguire is set to take on Croatia after scoring in the Three Lions’ 2-0 quarter-final triumph over Sweden.

Laurence was present in the Samara Arena to celebrate with the whole family and received a welcome call from his gaffer.

“I rang him straight after the last game,” said Allen.

“He’s staying out for the semi-final.

“Laurence is such a humble, down to earth character and he didn’t ask to stay out there.

“He was more than willing to come back.

“He couldn’t believe it when I rang him.

“He’s got to come back on Thursday, that’s when he’s flying back.”

Allen has no concerns about the younger Maguire missing pre-season training.

But he did want to canvas the rest of the Town players on whether or not he should ask the 21-year-old return.

“He’s got his training kit out there with him anyway,” Allen told the Derbyshire Times.

“He was one of the fittest when he came back and has a very similar attitude to his brother, totally dedicated and hard working.

“I know he will train out there anyway.

“I asked all the players if they felt it was the right thing to do, to keep him out there or bring him back and all of them said let him stay.”

Allen, who has already predicted that England will win the World Cup, is taking great pleasure from Maguire senior’s success.

“I think we’re all proud because it’s our country but it’s great that he’s a local lad scoring for our country,” he said.

Late last week when the charismatic manager revealed he had sent Laurence out to Russia for the quarter-final, he released a statement on the club website saying the defender had caught ‘Russian flu’ and would subsequently miss the friendly at Sheffield FC.

This week, he’s dropped a large hint that he won’t mind so much if Maguire hasn’t fully recovered from his unique ailment before Sunday’s World Cup final at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

“Hopefully he won’t be available for the weekend’s game away at Boston United,” Allen added.
