South Normanton were beaten 3-2 by Barrow Town in the Premier League of the East Midlands Counties Football League after conceding three goals in six minutes.

It had looked good for the Shiners after they hit the front through new signing Nathan Benger on 13 minutes.

Benger showed some quick-thinking as he closed down the goalkeeper following a backpass. The ball then bounced back at his feet, before he chipped the goalkeeper from 16 yards.

But Barrow drew level on 36 thanks to a brilliant cross from wide left to Jordan Lever, who shot the ball back across goal allowing Dave Coleman to fire home from close range.

The second goal came two minutes later when Lloyd Tapper scored from long range.

The blitz was completed on 41 minutes when Luke Plumber’s speculative cross curled straight into the top corner of Steve Smith’s goal.

South Normanton pulled a goal back on the hour mark when Benger pounced after Sam Griffiths’ shot had rattled the crossbar and fallen into his path.

Normanton’s chance to equalise fell to defender Danny Roberts when he came up for a corner on 86 minutes.

But Roberts lacked the composure needed as he skied his effort from nine yards as South Normanton’s final chance went begging.
