Matlock Town’s home pre season friendly with Burton Albion on Tuesday night has been cancelled after Brewers boss Nigel Clough contacted Gladiators officials explaining that the League One club have a lengthy injury list.

Clough said that it was with reluctance that Burton have requested the game to be off but said he would endeavour to send a side to the Proctor Cars Stadium on a midweek night during the coming season.

Burton begin their season next weekend at home to Rochdale two weeks before Matlock’s opening league fixture at home to Lancaster City.

The Gladiators welcome Chesterfield to the Proctor cars Stadium on Monday night (7.30 pm) before completing their pre season programme with games at AFC Mansfield and Belper Town on the following two Saturdays.

This weekend they travel to Gresley FC boosted by the news that full back Jake Green has signed on again for the new campaign. Another signing is expected to be added early next week.
