Debut brace for Parkgate ace

Parkgate got a monkey off their back as they came from behind to beat Armthorpe Welfare 2-1 at Green Lane on Tuesday evening as Steve Adams side bounced back from an opening day defeat at Garforth Town.

The Steelmen failed to win any of their first nine league games at home last term.

Parkgate had goalkeeper Dan Morton defender Jon Bownes midfielder Ross Shelton and striker Craig Fletcher making their home league debuts but trailed to an Adam Lee goal after four minutes.

But they equalised eight minutes later. Andy Dawson lofted a ball over the visitors defence for Fletcher to drill home a low shot into the bottom corner. And it was Fletcher again with the winner, an angled shot across goal six minutes from time.

Handsworth Parramore were held 1-1 at Thackley, sub Sam Smith heading them into a 50th minute lead only for Mike Garrod to level five minutes later.

Maltby Main slipped up 3-2 at home to Glasshoughton Welfare as the visitors bounced back from a 6-0 mauling at Handsworth on the opening day.

Main trailed 1-0 and 2-1 but hit back through Liam Royle and Lee Jordanonly to concede a third five minutes from time.

Liam Wilkin’s 90th minute penalty salvaged a point for Retford United in a 1-1 draw against Garforth Town at Cannon Park.

AFC Emley are the early leaders in Division One with two wins from two after Jordan Townsend and a Doran Jordan brace gave Darren Hepworth’s side a 3-1 victory over Bottesford Town.

Rossington Main romped to an emphatic 6-1 win at Winterton Rangers. Lee Holmes with a hat-trick added to a brace from Jordan Hatton and Zack Oakshott’s first for the club.

Worksop Town moved to second in the Premier Division and level on points with early leaders Heanor Town with maximum points from two games after a 5-3 win over Liversedge at Sandy Lane on Wednesday.

Andre Johnson hit a hat-trick with Luke Shiels and Jake Scott getting the others.
