Clay Cross Town extended their lead at the top of the Central Midlands North Division to 12 poiints after a 8-1 win at Phoenix FC.

It also helped them extend their unbeaten run to 12 games as the South Yorkshire side proved to be no match.

Their resilience lasted a mere 22 minutes when Grant Mitchell picked his place and shot past keeper, Andy Knighton.

A similar goal followed on 35 minutes when Josh Scully scored his first of the afternoon. When Scully fired into the roof of the net on 43 minutes the Millers were seen to be coasting to victory.

Straight after the interval Callam Lytham showed the hosts no mercy by making it 4-0.

Then a defensive error left the Millers keeper, Ryan Hopkins exposed and Suhail Hussain took the opportunity to slide it into goal.

Normal service was resumed on the hour when a sublime free-kick from Josh Scully earned him his first hat-trick for the club.

The last 13 minutes saw a flurry of further goals from the Clay Cross men with Callam Lytham, Alex Hewitt and Josh Parfitt all getting in on the act.

The 8-1 win saw them stretch their lead at the top to twelve points over this Saturday’s visitors to Mill Lane, Retford FC.
