The 19-year-old, who is on loan until the end of the season from Premier League Burnley, scored his first goal for the club in the 2-1 win at Chorley on Saturday.

On life at the Spireites he said: “I love it. The lads have really welcomed me into the team and I can’t thank them enough. Coming into a different club sometimes it is a bit edgy but they have helped me out and built my confidence right up.”

Cropper was Pemberton’s first signing when he took over in January and he has started all seven games since he joined the Blues.

“He is a good manager,” Cropper said. “He has given everyone confidence. He will get into you when it is needed but he really wants to build up the confidence in the lads and get us playing and I think that is what we have been doing.

“He has really built a good relationship with us all and it is paying off on the pitch.”

The wing-back notched his first goal for Chesterfield on 64 minutes against Chorley when he smashed the ball into the roof of the net at the back post following a teasing cross from the left by Nathan Tyson.

“I knew Tyson had the beating of him, he did it all game,” Cropper said.

“The keeper was already on his hands and knees so I thought just lift it over him so it ended up being a good goal.

“It was not my best performance today but I am happy to get my first goal. I need a few more goals and assists to help the team out.”

The win moves Town out of the relegation zone for the first time since November 26.

“Overall it was not our best performance but a strong performance,” Cropper added.

“Five wins out of eight is not bad and we are out of the bottom four and we keep pushing on and working our way up the table.”
