Individual errors and poor decision-making has been a big downfall for the Spireites this season.

Caretaker boss Pemberton is a big believer in the psychological side of the game and he has held individual meetings with players and as a team.

On Chesterfield’s fragility Pemberton said: “I think it is getting better.

“I would not say it has gone.

“We are working really hard on those bits (individual errors).

“A lot of them were individual errors, a lot of them were about decision making, but I think a lot of it was psychological.

“I like to sit and engage and get a feeling for someone. It is alright me saying ‘you should be doing that’ but I don’t know how they are feeling.

“It is easy for me to say what they should be doing but I don’t know what state they are in.”

He added: “I think that is an important thing because you could be asking people, at this moment in time, what they are not capable of doing. They might be capable if we had won five games on the bounce but at this moment in time, the way they think, they are not capable of doing.

“The big thing for us is to find that out and that is why we have the meetings that we have, that is why we have the conversations we have, that is why I like to be in and around and engage with them to try and understand where they are at this moment in time.”
