While his teammate Smith has scored four goals this campaign but three of those came in the first three matches under Pemberton.

Smith, who like Weston is also 33, struck the only goal of the game in Pemberton’s first match in charge against Sutton United and then added strikes against Eastleigh and AFC Fylde.

Pemberton said: "I think he (Weston) has been great in all of the games.

"Him and Smith together have been solid.

Meanwhile, with no match this Saturday due to Harrogate Town’s involvement in the FA Trophy, the Spireites have arranged a game behind closed doors on Thursday.

"We are just trying to keep rolling and get the lads who have not been playing some playing time and a couple of the lads who have been injured,” Pemberton added. “It gives me a good chance to see everyone.”

In other news, goalkeeper Curtis Anderson, 19, who had a short trial with Chesterfield last month, is now on trial at Charlton Athletic.
