It feels good to look at the league table and see Chesterfield’s name proudly at the top, writes our Spireites fan columnist Roland Gent.

I am sure there were some fans looking at James Rowe’s signings in pre-season and wondering where all the new additions were going to fit in but they have proved to be a wise bunch of incomings so far.

Key players Gavin Gunning and Manny Oyeleke had to come off against Yeovil Town on Saturday but Jeff King and Jak McCourt did a fine job in replacing them and the standard of play did not dip which highlights the strength in depth that we have got.

Every season in the National League has seen us in a relegation scrap come November, usually due to poor signings, but I feel this time around things are going to be different and a lot of that is due to more professionalism behind the scenes.

Chesterfield are top of the National League after seven matches.Chesterfield are top of the National League after seven matches.

I am always intrigued by the sequences that pop-up in football and we have now won our last four trips to Yeovil which makes it a happy hunting for us Spireites.

Previous to that we played Barnet at home and there were six goals in the game, just the same as last season although Chesterfield only got four of them this time.

Next up is Torquay United at home on Saturday and we have a bizarrely good home record against the Gulls apart from when they won 2-0 in Derbyshire last season.

Comparing our form with theirs, you would think we have a good chance of collecting another three points and keeping our place at the top. Fingers crossed!
