The 55-year-old has been appointed caretaker boss until the end of the season after collecting 10 points from a possible 15 since taking over from John Sheridan.

“I am pleased it is done,” he said.

“It does not really change anything for me. My focus has always been trying to keep us in this division.”

The former Crystal Palace and Sheffield United defender said it was a relief to extend his stay at the Proact because “everybody knows where they are” for the remaining 12 matches of the season as the Blues aim to avoid relegation from the National League.

With a takeover by Chesterfield FC Community Trust said to be “close”, Pemberton is happy with the length of his new contract and then the situation can be assessed after that.

“To be fair that is all I really wanted was until the end of the season,” he said.

“It is only fair if there is a takeover going to happen that the new people that come in they do not get burdened with me if it is not what I want so I think it is only right to just do it until the end of the season and then everybody can take stock then and see where we are at a club”

Understandably, it appears Pemberton, like all Spireites supporters, wants to know what the club might look like if a takeover by the trust is completed by the middle of March as expected.

When asked if he would like the job long-term he added “I enjoy working here and I enjoy managing.

“I want to have a chance to do alright so I don’t quite know where we are going to be when the takeover happens so it is something to sit down when the time is right.

“I would like to be here long-term.

“It is a nice club and there are good people but long-term if it fits both then there is no problem.”
