There were better performances towards the end of the season, under Sheridan

How they rated - the 2018/19 Chesterfield squad's individual contributions

Chesterfield's 2018/19 season was a tale of two halves, with the second half proving a lot more enjoyable than the first.

Here's how we think the club's players fared individually.

Drew Talbot - 6 - Poleaxed in the second game, played through the pain barrier for 11 games before succumbing to a serious knee problem that ended his season. Injury clearly affected his performance, if not his desire.

Jonathan Smith - 7 - Reliable at right-back, pretty consistent in the middle. Drove Town forward in many games, chipped in with a few goals. One of the most combative Spireites.

Lee Shaw - 6.5 - For work-rate, few could match him. Signed as a striker but played wide right or wing-back. Gave his all every game. Didn't take his chances up front however.

Josef Yarney - 6.5 - Largely solid on the right of a three in defence. Susceptible to pace a few times and wasn't always great on the ball, but settled in well and definitely contributed to an improved Town defence.
