Horror show for Heanor Town in FA Vase

Heanor Town endured a Hallowe’en horror show as they lost 6-1 at Coventry Sphinx and exited the FA Vase in the first round.

The Lions came into the game as underdogs and were behind after just two minutes. Jamal Adams found an inch in the penalty area before lashing a shot into the top corner.

A disastrous start got even worse for the Lions two minutes later. Debutant ‘keeper Jamie Hannis’ clearance from the corner flag struck Adams and spun into the net.

Heanor tried to get back in the game but were unable to fashion a clear chance. Sam Vickers with the best effort, seeing his shot hit the side netting after working his way into the area.

Coventry made it 3-0 when Louis Guest bundled home from a corner. The Lions were adamant Hannis was fouled but the referee allowed the goal.

Ashanti Pryce made it four just before the half-hour mark before Madundo Semahimbo added a fifth from distance on 32 minutes to complete a miserable first-half for the Lions.

Heanor improved in the second half and clawed a goal back shortly after the restart when Sam Vickers’ volley found the bottom corner.

The Lions couldn’t add to their total and were reduced to ten men late on after Reece Horne was sent off for a late challenge.

As the game ticked into stoppage time, Kyle Daley handled in the box and Jamal Adams stepped up to complete his hat-trick from the spot.
