The striker, 37, who joined on a season loan from Notts County last month, came on just before the hour-mark against Ebbsfleet United on Saturday and made an instant impact with his first goal for the club three minutes later.

He went on to complete his sixth career hat-trick and become the first Chesterfield player to score a treble after coming on as a substitute.

Tyson showed why he has now scored 125 goals during his career with a classy turn and finish in the box to open his account for the Blues.

“I was just looking to set someone up but the defender let me turn - I did not feel him - so I thought I am just going to turn and shoot and it has gone in the top corner,” he said.

“I was buzzing to get that first goal out of the way.”

The striker made it 2-0 on 77 minutes as he headed home David Buchanan’s corner.

Tyson said: “I have to say thanks to Robbie (Weir) really because he was saying ‘no don’t go on the ‘keeper, I’ll go on the ‘keeper and you go and win it’. I think Robbie is claiming an assist for that one!”

Nathan Tyson is mobbed by his teammates after scoring a second-half hat-trick for Chesterfield against Ebbsfleet United.

And the former Nottingham Forest forward bagged his hat-trick on 83 minutes after turning his marker on the halfway line and finishing expertly past Ebbsfleet goalkeeper David Gregory.

“I was trying to get it on my right foot for a perfect hat-trick but beggars can’t be choosers,” he said.

It was a blistering treble from Tyson – but it was not his quickest. He scored a 10-minute hat-trick for Forest against Crewe in 2006.

He joked: “I was way off (the time) but I will try next time!”
