Handy Andy signs up for Bucks

Warrington signed up for the Bucks last weekend despite receiving contract offers from a clutch of teams higher up the footballing pyramid.

The 37-year old shot-stopper departed his former club Rotherham United earlier in the summer having featured 27 times in their promotion-winning season, when they claimed second spot in League Two back in May.

Despite the amount of interest he received Warrington says a new role he is taking up with Rotherham, where he will work with the club in a community teaching capacity, will combine perfectly with playing for Martin McIntosh’s side.

Speaking to the Advertiser, he said: “I actually turned down two League Two clubs and a Conference club.

“The decision to come here was mainly location-wise. I live in Rotherham and United offered me a job so I had to think about my long-term future.

“Then Martin phoned me up to see if I fancied a game so I came down to training.

“The move fits in with everything I want to do because I wanted to carry on playing.”

When quizzed on whether he will instantly notice the difference of quality that is expected, having dropped three leagues down from League Two, Warrington remarked: “Football is football.

“The difference (that I notice) will be the standards of the pitches to be honest - but there’s some bad ones in League Two so that doesn’t faze me.”

Warrington, who again links up with Tim Ryan and Jamie Green who he played with at Doncaster and Rotherham respectively, says that he has already seen enough to convince him there is quality within the Bucks ranks.

He added: “From what I’ve seen since coming in, there’s the nucleus of a really good team here.”
