Cook is the 29th managerial appointment Chesterfield have made since the Second World War, and is the third man in that time to have been appointed twice after John Duncan and John Sheridan.
Here, we look at all of those who have managed Spireites since the war and what their impact was at the club.

9. Frank Barlow (1980-1983)
Barlow readily admitted he preferred coaching to management, his honesty always appreciated by Spireites fans during a reign that was heavily hampered by financial difficulties and included relegation to Division Four. He left with his head held high in 1983, going on to be assistant at Scunthorpe and Sheffield United among other roles. Photo: JPIMedia
Duncan's job was to steer Chesterfield back to Division Three, which he did in 1975 by winning the Division Four title. They remained a steady Division Three side under his reign thereafter, his work recognised by Ipswich Town who lured him away in 1987, albeit it would be far from the end of Duncan's Chesterfield story. Randall replaced Duncan but again, with financial constraints and falling crowds, was unable to inspire despite his wholehearted efforts. He helped fight off relegation in 1988, but left the club early the following season. He returned as Duncan's assistant a few years later. Randall passed away in 2019 aged 73. Photo: JPIMedia
Hart came in and initially lifted Spireites away from the bottom of Division Three, but form soon dropped and they were ultimately relegated. However, Hart took Spireites to the play-off final in 1990 only to be beaten by Cambridge, and unable to further improve the following year he was sacked. He was most recently part of the coaching staff at Luton Town. Photo: Getty Images
